  • Artificial Colors, Flavors, Preservatives, or Sweeteners
  • Bleached or Bromated Flour

 

We believe what we sell should be good for you and your family, good for the community, good for our supply partners, and good for the environment. We meet every taste with the highest standards, love, and care. Whether it’s a diet, an allergy, a sensitivity, or a preference, our products bring everyone together around the table.

When you shop with us, you can trust all items have been carefully researched and approved. Every product here is hand-selected by the Healthy Living family. So you can spend hours discovering unique items or mere minutes in and out trusting every item is free from the bad stuff. If it’s in our stores, you’re good to go!

Better Farming Practices. Better Taste.

Local: Purchased and delivered directly from the producer or grown regionally.

Organic: USDA-certified or complies with USDA-certification practices and approved for organic certification by the department. Our imported offerings have all passed USDA safety inspections.

Eco-Grown: Certified eco-grown by the IPM Institute, verified use of integrated pest management and sustainable practices, or a hydroponic or aquaponic farm we buy from directly that does not use pesticides in their production.

Non-GMO: We do not buy GMO produce. We buy varieties that are produced by plant breeding through cross pollination only.

A Note From Our Founder Katy Lesser

“In 1986, with absolutely no knowledge of business, I started a tiny market located in the Blue Mall, Dorset Street in South Burlington, Vermont. I truly wanted to feed my family differently, and different choices seemed very hard to come by.

I also had memories of the food markets I knew growing up. I remembered them as community meeting places, where neighbors ran into each other in the aisles. They seemed like much happier places to shop than the sterile, harshly lit supermarkets I visited each week. So, why not own a tiny food market that was dedicated to exactly the kinds of things I was searching for?

And what a journey it’s been since we started! I went from myself and one other person on staff to currently over 300 staff, from 1,200 sq. ft. to 35,000 sq. ft., from putting away the entire order by myself to having a team of grocery folks helping en masse, and from basically knowing zero about business to being pretty darn good at it! Our second store opened in Saratoga Springs, New York, and our newest store is in Williston, VT.

I still love the everyday routines, the customer interactions, the new product excitement, the seasonal changes, and the learning process. All I’ve learned over the years about running a business translates to taking care of people and delivering exceptional hospitality—which is, I believe, a good way to live!”
